So, about this Tianma stuff…
People go on and on about Tianma, or Gastrodia, whatever you wanna call it. Good for this, good for that. Headaches, dizziness, all that jazz. I used to just nod along, you know? Never really paid it much mind. Sounded like just another one of those things your grandma tells you about.
But lemme tell ya, life has a funny way of making you pay attention. A few years back, I was in a real mess. Work was insane, deadlines piled up to the ceiling. I mean, literally, I felt like my head was gonna explode. Started getting these wicked headaches, like a vise gripping my skull. And the dizziness? Don’t even get me started. Sometimes I’d stand up and the whole room would just spin. Went to the doc, got some pills. They kinda helped, but made me feel all fuzzy and weird. Not great when you’re trying to actually get stuff done, right?
I was complaining to my old neighbor, Mr. Chang, one day. Super nice old fella, always out in his yard. He listens to me go on for a bit, then he just says, ‘You ever try Tianma?’ I was like, ‘Tianma? That root thing?’ Honestly, I was pretty doubtful. Figured it was just another folk remedy that wouldn’t do a darn thing. But I was getting pretty desperate at that point. The regular meds weren’t really doing the trick, and I was just plain miserable.
So, Mr. Chang, he actually gave me some. Even showed me how he prepares it, usually in a simple soup. He told me:

- ‘Make sure you get good quality Tianma slices, not some cheap junk.’
- ‘You can boil it with some chicken, or even just on its own for a bit.’
- ‘Drink the broth, and you can eat the Tianma slices too if you want.’
Seemed easy enough, I guess. What did I have to lose, right? So I decided to give it a go. Figured if it didn’t work, well, no harm done.
I started taking it, maybe a few times a week. Didn’t notice anything spectacular right off the bat, to be totally honest. But after maybe two or three weeks, something sort of shifted. The headaches… they weren’t hitting me as hard, or as often. And that dizzy feeling? It started to ease up. I actually remember thinking, ‘Huh. Is this Tianma stuff actually doing something?’ It wasn’t like flipping a switch, not at all. It was more of a gradual improvement. My head just felt a bit clearer, and I wasn’t constantly bracing myself for the next wave of pain.
The really big deal for me was that I didn’t feel any weird side effects. You know, like those pills that made me feel like I was walking around in a fog. The Tianma just seemed to… help. Slowly but surely. I could think straight again. My concentration got better. I even noticed I was sleeping a bit more soundly, which was a massive plus I wasn’t even looking for.

So yeah, that’s my little adventure with Tianma. I’m not about to tell you it’s some magic bullet for everyone, and I’m definitely not a doctor. But for me, when I was really struggling with those headaches and that awful brain fog, it genuinely made a difference. It wasn’t an overnight fix, but it helped me feel like myself again. Turns out, sometimes those old traditional things actually have some wisdom to them. I went from being a total doubter to someone who actually keeps a small stash of Tianma in the cupboard now. Funny how life works out, isn’t it?
